Bio

I am a professor and writer with a range of specialties. My early professional background was is in journalism and public relations. I worked as broadcast and print journalist while serving in the US Army. Afterwards I created a communications consulting company focusing on political, fine arts, and public service non-profit clients. I have extensive experience producing print and broadcast packages for major publications and media outlets throughout the world.

For most of the past 16 years however, I have focused on being a professor, researcher, and writer. I have Bachelor's degree and Master's degree from St. Edward's University in Anthropology. I have a second Master's degree in Mass Communication with a focus in International Mass Communication from Texas State University. I also have a PhD from Texas State University in Adult Education with an emphasis in post-secondary pedagogy. Finally, I received a post-doc grant from the National Science Foundation to spend three years studying and improving teaching practices in STEM fields at elite universities in the US. I have received additional grants from the US Department of Defense and the Texas Department of Health.

I have taught for the US Air Force Academy, Texas State University, St. Edward's University, and part-time for several other universities (in-person and online). I have taught undergraduate and masters courses across a full range of cultural anthropology, physical anthropology, archaeology, mass communication, public relations, and speech communications. My primary teaching however has been within the doctoral dissertation sequence for various Education PhD and EdD programs. I have taught the full range of qualitative and quantitative methods courses for these programs along with dissertation proposal writing and design courses. I primarily serve as a dissertation committee member and Chair.
